How to conduct consultations with ethnic communities?
- Consider your audience mix to include NESB people in rural or remote areas, those with disabilities or those who are illerate in English and their own language.
- Widely publicise the consultations.
- Book for interpreters if necessary.
- Be sensitive to social, cultural or religious factors.
- Train your staff who will undertake the consultation about cultural issue.
- Select a suitable time (may be after hours) and location for the NESB people

MMM conducted a consultation with more than 60 Chinese community leaders for the NSW Heritage Office regarding the State Heritage Inventory list. |
| For Northern Sydney Area Health Service, MMM conducted a series of workshops and in-depth interviews with over 40 organisations about a bilingual community worker program. |
| MMM organised a consultative seminar, Focus on the Future - New Training Directions for NESB people for Department of Employment, Education and Training. MMM also produced the conference proceedings. Issues on access, participation and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and NESB people were investigated. We reviewed DEET's 13 national training programs in terms of access and equity. A training evaluation grid was developed and applied, resulting in the development of an access and equity training evaluation model. |
